Establishing a New Core Facility

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) defines a core as a shared resource that provides access to instruments, technologies and services on a pay-per-use basis. Designation as an official UAMS core must be obtained prior to incurring charges.

Process for requesting core designation:

  1. Complete the Request for Recognition as a UAMS Core Facility Form and the Core Facility Rate Computation Spreadsheet.
  2. Submit completed forms to the director of cost accounting and the Translational Research Institute (TRI) to obtain approval of the pricing structure.
  3. Upon approval of the pricing structure, the director of cost accounting will notify the TRI.
  4. The application forms will be reviewed by the TRI’s Technology Assessment Committee.
  5. If the core will be housed within the College of Medicine, approval must also be obtained from the Research Council.
  6. Upon endorsement from the TRI’s Technology Assessment Committee and the Research Council (if necessary), an approval letter indicating official designation as a core facility will be sent to you and the vice chancellor for research.
  7. Upon receipt of the approval letter, notify the director of cost accounting and the executive associate dean for finance and administration in the College of Medicine, who will process the necessary accounts.
  8. Note, core facilities must undergo an annual assessment by the TRI
